Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Will Feature Split-Screen, But There’s a Catch
  • Some fans are disappointed that Black Ops 6 only allows two people to play split-screen, as opposed to four as in the previous games in the series.
  • Additionally, split-screen is limited to next-generation consoles; earlier consoles are not supported due to performance issues.
  • Even if Black Ops 6 has some significant restrictions, the fact that it still has split-screen at all is a victory because newer games are starting to omit it more and more.

There’s a catch that could annoy players who favor the split-screen action of earlier games, but many gamers love and anticipate Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s split-screen features. Treyarch and Raven Software are working on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the newest game in the popular first-person shooter series, which is slated for release on October 25, 2024.

By including both new and vintage gameplay elements, the most current Black Ops game looks to be seeking to appeal to a wide variety of Call of Duty fans. During the Xbox Games Showcase, Black Ops 6 was officially announced. It was reported that the game will have a unique combination of new and old gameplay, featuring the reintroduction of cherished elements such as the famous Prestige as well as revolutionary features like Omnimovement. While the reintroduction of split-screen in BO6 may excite fans, there are certain negatives.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 devs confirm that there will be a big change in sniper rifles, making them significantly different from Modern Warfare 3.

As confirmed by Activision, the split-screen gameplay in Black Ops 6 will only allow two players to share the screen, as opposed to the four-player setup in games like BO3. This will surely be a letdown for larger squads who were expecting a split-screen mode that allows for four players to share a screen. This is especially disappointing for players who are looking forward to the Zombies mode in Black Ops 6, as it’s certainly more enjoyable when there is a full group of four people in the squad to fight the undead. While the series has not featured four-player split-screen since Black Ops 3, and it is nice that even the two-player split-screen exists, it is a bit disappointing that the four-player option is not coming back alongside Zombies’ return to form.

Black Ops 6’s Split-Screen Option Might Disappoint Players

Another disadvantage is that the two-player split-screen capability is only compatible with current-generation consoles, namely the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. This is quite disappointing for previous generation console gamers who were looking forward to the game’s arrival on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Activision argues that split-screen gaming on prior generation consoles is not permitted due to performance concerns. Although it is unknown at this moment if PC gamers will have split-screen support, it is apparent that many of them feel it would be amazing if they could.

The reveal trailer and details made public following the Xbox event indicate that Treyarch and Raven have been working frantically on the gameplay features and systems of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which has been in development for some time. Compared to previous games, Black Ops 6 will feature dramatically altered mobility due to the addition of omnidirectional movement, a new and customizable HUD, and a conventional Prestiging system.
