Magnitude-4.9 Barstow earthquake and aftershocks shake parts of Southern California

In the Barstow region northeast of Los Angeles, on Monday afternoon, there was a recorded earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 and at least two aftershocks.

The earthquake in San Bernardino County’s Mojave Desert was followed by aftershocks of magnitudes 3.5 and 2.8. Shaking was reported in a number of places, including Universal City, Claremont, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Glendale, Chatsworth, Granada Hills, and Chino, according to the USGS website.

Calico Fault: This desert-crossing earthquake fault is closest to the epicentre.

There were no reports of damage right away.

About 100 miles to the northeast of Los Angeles sits Barstow.
